I love design. I always have. However, I found myself a bit dejected after scrolling through pages of picture perfect homes on Instagram and binge watching a little too much Fixer-Upper. I want to have a home that is lovely and inviting, that speaks to my design loving soul, but I also need it to be functional and affordable. This desire has inspired me to create a FREE DIY Challenge group! A place where we can share and inspire one another to flex our DIY skills and win prizes!
HOW IT WORKS
Each month will have a theme along with two challenges. The first challenge will have a budget you cannot exceed. The second challenge you are encouraged to spend as little as money possible. Instead shop your home, repurpose items, get creative! The idea is that everyone can participate and have a chance to win prizes even if you have little to no extra money to spend. You can participate in one or both of the projects. Or none at all! You can just follow along to see what others come up with.
There will be a set amount of time to complete your project. You will send a before and after photo of your space. We will choose finalist and then have a vote for the winner. The prizes will differ each month. But each winner’s project will be featured on Maebells and Gin Creek Kitchen and shared with over 100k social media followers.
CHALLENGE ONE: Entryway
Let’s start the year off by organizing that pesky “drop zone” we all have! Each home is different, you may have a traditional entryway, a mudroom, a space in your garage or just a coat closet when you come in. Choose whatever space is your families “entryway” and give it a beautiful and functional make over. Once you sign up for the challenge you will receive a workbook full of ideas and resources. You can check out our pinterest boards, Favorite DIY Entryways, or DIY archives for ideas.
Think about how your family uses the space. Are you like me and have a space where shoes are kicked off and jackets are flung over chairs? Is it a space littered with backpacks? What would make this work for you?
Use any resources at your disposal, repurpose items, up-cycle and reorganize but keep your budget under $150. You can find some of my favorite hooks, baskets and entryway essentials here.
CHALLENGE TWO: Storage and Organization
The New Year is the perfect time to take charge of that space that just always seems our of control. This can be ANY space in your home. The “junk drawer” we all have. Let’s face it, most of us have more than one. That hall closet that is like a black hole, or your pantry. This doesn’t have to be a big space, it just has to be a space that needs extra love.
How could you utilize this space better? Do you need to reorganize the furniture or accessories in the space? Could you repurpose items like baskets, jars or bins and make this space work better? Need some inspiration? Checkout our favorite 17 Easy Storage Hacks.
We want to see what you can do on a tiny budget of just $30! You are strongly encouraged to use items you already have! We are looking for inspiring ideas on how to up-cycle items and make a space beautiful and functional. Get creative!
Each week we will be giving away a random gift just for participating! Be sure you are checking your email and our DIY facebook group!
