Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
Slice the onions thick (aim for about 1/4" thick so they get evenly cooked), then toss in spices and place in 9x13 greased baking dish
Top with cubed butter and cheese.
Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake an additional 10-15 minutes until the onions have reached your desired tenderness and the cheese is completely melted.
