How to make Bacon Wrapped Cabbage

This is a terrific all purpose side dish that will go great with just about anything. One of the things I love most is that it can be baked or grilled. The versatility of this recipe makes it a great summer side dish because you can toss them on the grill along with some Jalapeno Lime Chicken and have a flavorful summer meal. However, it also works great in the oven making it perfect for cooler seasons or busy nights when you don’t have time for a grill. 

No matter which cooking method you prefer the basic assembly method is the same. Begin by cutting off the bottom of the cabbage. This means cutting a straight line along the bottom of the head of cabbage to remove the toughest part of the stem. Then slice the cabbage in half and each side into 6 wedges. In a small bowl combine the Ranch seasoning and parmesan, set aside. Drizzle each side of the cabbage wedges with olive oil and sprinkle the parmesan mixture over the cabbage. Next, use one slice of thinly sliced bacon around each cabbage wedge. 

How to make Baked Cabbage with Bacon

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

How to Make Grilled Cabbage with Bacon

  1. Preheat a grill to high heat, approximately 400 degrees.
  2. Follow steps #2-#5 listed above.
  3. Place the bacon wrapped cabbage wedges on the grill and reduce the heat to medium heat, approximately 350 degrees. 
  4. Grill for 10 minutes, turn and grill another 10-15 minutes until bacon is crisp. 

What is the best bacon for keto?

I often get questions about which brand of meats to purchase on a keto diet. This is especially true for lunch meats, bacon and sausage where seasonings are often added. Check out the nutritional information on the package of bacon to check for hidden carbs. I just opt for the lowest carb variety I can find. Often this is a hickory or applewood smoked bacon, just be mindful of the sweet varieties as they contain sugar and the carb count is higher.

Tips for Best Cabbage and Bacon Dinner

Be sure to use a thinly sliced bacon for this recipe. The thin bacon will crisp up perfectly. If you only have thick cut bacon on hand cut it in half and carefully stretch the bacon out, then wrap around the cabbage wedges.
