Keto Pizza Bites Ingredients
These keto crustless pizza bites are made with just a handful of real ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need to make this simple keto meal:
- Italian sausage: spicy or mild works well in this recipe. This recipe requires cooked sausage and that is something you can easily prep ahead of time.
- Cream cheese: full fat or reduced fat cream cheese will work.
- Coconut flour: you can use almond flour in equal parts in this recipe, but they will not be as soft and fluffy.
- Baking powder: provides lift and rise and helps to create a bread-like texture.
- Minced garlic and Italian seasoning: add flavor. If you do not have fresh garlic, you can use 1 teaspoon garlic powder.
- Eggs: the binding agent to help the pizza bites hold together. You cannot skip the eggs, this recipe will not work without it.
- Shredded mozzarella cheese: you can also use a mixture of your favorite cheeses such as mozzarella and parmesan cheese if desired.
How to Make Keto Pizza Bites
Here are the basic steps to make this low-carb pizza bites recipe:
- Add cream cheese and cooked sausage to a bowl and mix until well combined.
- Add in the rest of the ingredients and stir.
- Chill for 10 minutes to allow the flour time to absorb the moisture.
- Drop onto a greased baking sheet using a small cookie scoop.
- Bake at 350ºF until golden brown.
What to Serve with This Recipe
These low-carb pizza bites can be enjoyed on their own as a snack, but they’re also a great keto meal prep option. Here are some keto-friendly sides to serve with the pizza bites:
- Cold Asparagus Salad
- Italian Baked Mushrooms
- Parmesan Roasted Cauliflower
- Air Fryer Roasted Broccoli
- Keto Zucchini “Breadsticks”
Tips for the Best Keto Pizza Bites
- If you’d rather not use Italian sausage, you can replace it with 1 1/2 cups of chopped pepperoni slices. Just note that you can’t simply omit the sausage, as I don’t think the pizza bites would work well without anything as a replacement.
- I have used this as a base recipe for “supreme pizza” bites, which include bell peppers, black olives, and mushrooms. If you try something similar, make sure your veggies are patted dry so they don’t add too much moisture, and you are all set!
- I dunk these into Rao’s Low-Carb Marinara (not sponsored, just love it!) or a pizza sauce of your choice.
- You can also use pesto or garlic butter as a dipping sauce if you prefer.
Recipe FAQ
Almond flour can be used in place of coconut flour, but the keto-friendly pizza bites will not be as light and fluffy.
Cottage cheese can be used instead, but you must make sure you stir the cottage cheese well before measuring. When you open a container of cottage cheese, there is often moisture pooled on top; if you measure it without stirring, you will add too much liquid to these pizza bites, and they will spread a lot when cooking.
This recipe yields a lot of pizza bites, and baking in the oven is much more timely. I have not made these bites in the air fryer.
Yes! These cheesy bites freeze beautifully. I reheat mine in 20-second increments in the microwave!
The keto-friendly pizza bites can be assembled and baked in advance.
However, I’m not sure if you can prepare the mixture, chill it, and bake it off later. I worry the mixture may not hold up well a day ahead. I think I would mix the sausage and cream cheese a day ahead and then add the flour, seasonings, eggs and cheese the day of.
Yes! This is a great kid-friendly recipe that is perfect for a snack, light dinner, or lunch!

- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 3 large eggs, beaten
- 1 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella
Equipment
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Combine cooked sausage and cream cheese until completely combined.
- Add in remaining ingredients until well combined and chill 10 minutes to allow the flour time to absorb the moisture.
- **If you skip chilling the dough they will flatten as they cook and not be nice round balls**
- Drop onto a greased baking sheet (I like to use the silicone baking mats) using a small cookie scoop.
- Bake 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
- This made 30 for me, but that will depend on the size scoop you use and how tightly you pack them.
Notes

These are THE BEST! Even my not keto family devours these!
Can you use almond flour? Thanks!
Hi Nicole, Yes almond flour works they just won’t be as light and fluffy. I hope you enjoy!!
AMAZING!! I’m not one to comment but had to let you know how much I appreciate you sharing this! My entire non-Keto family loves them! Cooked up perfectly brown and just enough crisp! Super easy too!
Thank you SO much! I love getting feedback! Keto can be pretty tricky, so I’m glad you enjoyed these as much as we do! 🙂
These are easy to make and taste wonderful the next day, microwaved for 1 minute (5 or 6 on a paper plate). Thank you!
Can you make the balls a and chill a day ahead, then bake next day?
Hi Suzanne, I have never tried that so I can’t be sure. I worry the mixture may not hold up well a day ahead. I think I would mix the sausage and cream cheese a day ahead and then add the flour, seasonings, eggs and cheese the day of. I hope you enjoy these, we love them!
What sauce do you use to dip in the picture ?!
Hi Lauren, this is Rao’s low carb marinara!
Can these be cooked in an air fryer?
Hi Deena, I’m sorry I haven’t tried that option so I cannot say for sure.
What type of sauce and carbs are in the sauce? Doesn’t it defeat the purpose of keto with a regular tomato sauce?
This is Rao’s low carb marinara which has 4 net carbs per 1/2 cup, since dipping sauces are only 1-2 tablespoons this is fine for keto.
I did everything to the T. Chilled it. Used coconut powder… and everything else this recipe required, yet they still flattened out. Suggestions??
Hi Erin, We make these weekly and they don’t flatten out on me at all unless I skip chilling them. The only thing I can think of is maybe the eggs were larger? I buy size large, I’ll add a note in the recipe. You can always bake these in a muffin tin if you prefer.
Can you omit the sausage? I have everything else except that.
Hi Oprah, you could replace the sausage with 1 1/2 cups of chopped pepperoni but I don’t think they would work well without anything as a replacement.
These look fantastic! I was thinking they’d make a great breakfast alternative. Any idea if these freeze well?
Hi Tonya, yes! They freeze beautifully, I reheat mine in 20 second increments in the microwave! 🙂
I can’t eat pepperoni or sausage because I’m jewish, what can I replace with it instead? Is the pepperoni/sausage just a stuffing or is it used somehow for the dough.
Hi Rebbeca, this does need something in place of the sausage I don’t think the recipe would work without it but I think you could sub 1 pound ground beef or 2 cups of chopped turkey pepperoni and it would be great! 🙂
Can you skip flour altogether? I have been too cheap to buy any keto friendly flours, and I just use egg for my regular sausage balls.
Hi Tiffany, I don’t think these would work without almond flour or coconut flour.
These look delicious and I’m definitely adding to my meal plan for 2020. Can you add items like chopped veggies (mushrooms, onions and green peppers)?
Hi Marcia, absolutely! I have made “supreme pizza” bites with bell pepper, black olives, mushrooms and they were great! Just make sure your veggies are patted dry so they don’t add to much moisture and you are all set! 🙂
Do you think arrowroot or tapioca flour would be a good replacement for the coconut flour? I’m allergic to coconut. I can try the almond flour but my family aren’t big fans of almond flour.
Can you leave out cream cheese
Hi Michelle, I haven’t tried it without the cream cheese, I think they would be dry without it. I hope that helps!
Would you be able to use a different cheese? Cheddar instead of mozzarella?
Hi Dakota, yes that will work! 🙂 I hope you enjoy these are delicious!
The baking powder. Single or Double Acting?
Double acting is all that is available in my grocery, that is what I always use.
Very much thank you very much I’m going to try this recipe and I am on the keto diet thank-you
What a delicious recipe! I used ground beef & chopped pepperoni. Once the come out of the oven I pop them in the air fryer for 10 minutes to give them an extra crispness… SO GOOD! Next time I will make them a little smaller, more bite size. ?
Thanks Coletta, I’m so glad you enjoyed these! I also reheat these in the air fryer and love the the crispness it adds!
These look so delicious. Can they be eaten cold? I am looking for ideas to put in cooler for a road trip. Trying to stay out of restaurants.
Susan
Hi Susan, yes absolutely! I hope you enjoy!
Looks amazing! Do you use a certain type of marinara sauce?
Yes! I love Rao’s Marinara, it is low carb.
These, like lots of your recipes look great! I can’t use baking powder though as it has cornstarch and I am very allergic. Could baking soda work?
I’m sorry I’ve only made this as written.
You can make your own baking powder using baking soda and cream of tartar. You can find recipes online, it’s simple.
Hi. These were tasty! Can I make these more cheesy? Either by adding more cheese or less egg? Or even put a small piece of mozzarella stick in middle of bites?
You could possibly add additional cheese if you would like, I wouldn’t reduce the egg though.
I started making these a couple years ago so I would have an app to eat on Christmas Eve. I made the mistake of not setting some aside for myself. The family devoured them. I made a double batch the next year. This year, people asked me for the recipe so they could make it at home and my niece requested I make it for NYE. They don’t even realize their “sausage balls” are keto.
What’s a good way to keep them warm? Can I bake them at home and take them in a crock pot to keep them warm?
Yes, that should be fine! I’d leave the crockpot on low or warm, then occasionally stir them up a bit to make sure the ones on the bottom don’t burn.
Wow! This keto taco casserole is the BEST of ANY taco recipe I’ve ever had. Super easy to make and the flavor is awesome! So glad someone shared your site on Facebook. I can’t wait to try all tpur keto recipes! ☆☆☆☆☆
Made these today for my son who is eating low carb. I used what I had which was regular breakfast sausage but the rest I followed exactly as written. These were SO good! The sausage balls we used to make long ago didn’t have you cook the sausage first, and I really wasn’t crazy about all the grease that was absorbed into the finished product. These were just so good! Not greasy at all since cooking the sausage ahead of time and draining good. So glad to have this recipe so my son’s who are doing the low carb diet can have something really yummy when we have family gatherings! Seriously, everyone will enjoy these and never know they are low carb! Thank you for the recipe!
We tried this a couple of weeks ago, and liked it so much it is dinner tonight. I did use no nitrite pepperoni.
These are absolutely delicious and so easy to make!
